Why This Practice Exists?
I established this practice based on a question that has stayed with me since my university days:
What would psychology look like if it were truly accountable to the people it serves?
Throughout my professional experience in psychotherapy and psychological assessment, spanning community mental health centers, hospitals, and private practice, I have observed a recurring pattern: the people most in need of careful, rigorous, and culturally grounded care are often the ones who receive hasty conclusions based on norms and assumptions that do not necessarily reflect their lived realities.
My academic and professional journey has also been shaped by a desire to understand what it means to live across different cultures and identities. My work is informed by liberation psychology, a tradition holding that psychological knowledge should serve the concrete realities of communities rather than reducing or simplifying them. That is why this practice makes few promises, yet remains deeply committed to what it can genuinely offer.
I will work with you in the language in which you think and feel, whether Spanish or English. I will clearly explain what a test can and cannot reveal about you. I will treat your culture, family, migration history, and the pressures you face as essential clinical information, not as secondary details. And I will apply the same level of rigor to your assessment or psychotherapy session that I demand of the doctoral students I train.
That is the reason for this practice.
Not to pigeonhole you into psychological categories, but to make psychology work for your life.
Sliding Scale
Cost should not decide who gets access to quality psychological care. This practice is shaped by liberation psychology, a tradition that holds our field accountable to the communities it serves, and that commitment includes how fees are structured. A limited number of reduced fee openings are therefore reserved for clients experiencing financial hardship.
Sliding scale fees are determined through a brief, confidential conversation about household income and financial circumstances, and the same criteria are applied consistently to everyone who requests it. Reduced fee openings are limited so that the practice can sustain them responsibly over time; when all openings are filled, you may ask to be placed on a wait list or request referrals to lower cost community options. If cost is a concern for you, please raise it during your first phone call. That conversation is welcome here!
The terms described here vary by service type, payer, and individual circumstance, and are subject to change. Nothing on this page, website, and 15-minute consultation is a contract or a guarantee of a particular fee. Your actual charges will be set out in your service agreement and Good Faith Estimate.
